Today was the day! I went to the Philipp Plein store opening on Via Montenapoleone. When I got to work this morning I received an email from the company that is in charge of my program. The email stated that I would have to go see the Last Supper on Wednesday, and that I have to go see the most important News Company in Italy on Saturday. Oh…you meant this Saturday? Like, the Saturday I BOUGHT TICKETS TO GO TO FLORENCE SATURDAY?!

Yeah, needless to say, those Florence tickets are not getting canceled.

I ended up talking to my coworker, who gave me her #MensFashionWeek tickets about going to see the openings. She ended up telling me she met Paul McCartney and Steven Tyler at the Stella McCartney opening. When I asked my housemate (the Italian one) if it is common for Italians to go to fashion week event, he response was, “Yes, yes it is. We enjoy it because of the free food.” (It should be noted: She is not a fan of fashion and the hub bub around it)

When I arrived at the Philipp Plein opening I went inside and just looked around. Took A LOT of photos and had some appetizers. The collection was nice, wasn’t my favorite of his, so once I saw the place I figured it was time to go out because of the heat in the store. So yeah, I’m just waiting outside and debating if I should leave or not and as I decide to turn and go, Philipp Plein shows up. #LifeGoalsAchieved.

My Day:

  • Went to work only to discover that the ticket purchases I made for Florence would have to be canceled in order to attend a mandatory event that was already planned. Needless to say, those tickets are not getting canceled.
  • Sprinted home after work so that I could shower and I realized, I had no clue how to dress for the event.
  • Made it to the event about 30 minutes late, which is apparently common.
  • Got photos of Philipp Plein, headed home, and made myself some pasta.

What I Learned Today:

  • Always look the part. Remember how I was talking about fake it til you make it. Yes, this is a very important know how. Italians will look you and your outfit up, down, and all around. That’s why you MUST dress with an outfit that is ready to slay! image
  • Italians can spot an American miles away. Is it the walk, the talk, the height, the build? I don’t know. But the random snickers of, “Americana” sure let you know they know. #OneOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers image
  • The weather does not care about your outfit or your feelings. I went outside with clothes on for the hot hot sun. But only got a chilly wind. I need to purchase a black blazer. It don’t matter, I still looked good blowing away in the wind. image
